Why Clouds to Coral?

This is the envelope most people live and play in. If you are enjoying the cruising lifestyle you will have the pleasure of exploring a lot of that envelope, and that is what we love to do. After many years of vacation sailing and crewing on ocean passages, I finally got to immerse myself in the lifestyle of extended cruising. It really is different to sailing in the sheltered or familiar waters of local cruising areas. Long term cruising and voyaging  eventually requires blue water passage making and sailing at night. Even if it is only for a single overnight passage, it can be a big step for many sailors. There is also the power  and tranquility of the oceans. Many Sailors have spent decades enjoying the sheltered conditions of their home cruising grounds without ever experiencing the open ocean or sailing in the trade winds.  The other side of the equation is the social scene. The cruising community is eager to meet  each other, friendly and extremely helpful, I have never experienced a community anything like it. The cruising lifestyle is infectious and the cruising community is a big part of that.  At Clouds to Coral our goal is to provide everyone that joins us with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Cruising Lifestyle.  It is an opportunity to…

Over the past 35 years Rod Morris has been engaged in both chartering, cruising and offshore passage making. As crew he has crossed the Atlantic, sailed from Hawaii to Tahiti and Charleston S.C. to the Chesapeake Bay area. He also ran skippered charters while owning his first yacht with Desolation Sound Yacht Charters in Comox B.C. during the 1980’s. Following that he  bareboat chartered yachts in B.C., the Caribbean and Florida until 2014 when he purchased Oh!. In 2016 he sailed Oh! 1600 miles across the Caribbean from Grenada to Beaufort, North Carolina. It was during that trip that he became engaged with the cruising community and realized what a different experience it truly was. In 2017 he sailed Oh!  from Beaufort to Antigua, obtained his RYA Yacht Master certification and returned to Beaufort North Carolina via the Bahamas and Florida.

For the 2017-18 season Oh! returned to the Caribbean from Beaufort N.C. inviting guests to join us to experience the cruising lifestyle. The objective is to provide an alternative to conventional chartering that focuses on the cruising lifestyle, passage making and the cruising community. We are not a charter boat that caters to holiday makers, our guests participate as crew in every aspect of cruising to truly experience the unique rewards and challenges of the cruising lifestyle.

For the second half of 2018 Oh! completed an Atlantic Circuit that started from Charleston, South Carolina on  May 30, 2018. The circuit included stops in Beaufort NC, Bermuda, the Azores, Madeira Islands, Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands  and finally returned to Antigua in January 2019.  It was a a fabulous circuit that included a solo Trans-Atlantic passage eastbound.

For the winter of 2019 Oh! cruised in the Lessor Antilles, BVI, and Bahamas once again before ending in Annapolis MD on June 7th, 2019. It was a wonderful adventure and I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with my guests aboard Oh!.

For the winter of 2020 Oh! will once again be sailing in the Lessor Antilles, St. Croix, the BVI and USVI, before returning to the Bahamas and the US east coast. There are still openings for passages and opportunities to cruise in these incredible island groups. Contact me to join the adventures of Oh! and “Sample the Cruising Lifestyle”.
